Fortunately I got into my top choice (Bates) early, but I have spent the months since being stressed for my friends who are just finding out now. I am disillusioned with the factor of legacy, especially at the University of Notre Dame. I have two friends who heard back from ND this week. The one with much higher SAT scores, a more rigorous schedule, and quality extra-curriculars was rejected outright, while my other friend was accepted because his dad went there. It’s one thing if a school factors in legacy for two equal applicants but it shouldn’t be the primary factor. I hope the best for both my friends and know they will both have successful futures. But I have lost all respect for the University of Notre Dame.
